Catching Up on 2022

2022 is almost over and though I haven’t posted an update in a while that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been busy. Here is a quick overview of what I’ve been up to the last six months…

In July I attended a Carbon Transfer Printing workshop with Don Nelson (top left, below), held at the Photographer’s Formulary in beautiful rural Montana.

It was an amazing five days learning about this challenging darkroom technique and getting to know the other talented photographers in the class. I hope to continue to experiment with the carbon printing process in the new year.

September and October were busy months! First I attended the Fotofest portfolio review in Houston, Texas, and then I was in two exhibitions on two separate continents.

Fotofest is an amazing opportunity to present my work to dozens of industry professionals as well as being able to meet other inspiring photographers from around the world. I was thrilled to have my photogravure print “Eucalyptus” selected for inclusion in the benefit auction and I was happy to see that it sold for well over the projected price.

“THE LAND AND THAT WHICH LIVES ON IT: CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE CURIOUS NATURE OF OUR PLANET” at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Ohio was part of the FotoFocus Biennial 2002. This show, curated by Kent Krugh, brought together work by nine contemporary photographers working with concepts of landscape and nature. Included in the exhibition were three of my chine-collé photogravure prints.

Next up was “DESSIN” at the KUNSTRAUMhochdorf gallery in Switzerland, where they presented my video work as well as gelatin silver prints resulting from the “Scratched” video-making process. I was thrilled to be able to make a visit back to my home country and attend the opening with my brother and his wife.

Lastly, I was excited to see my photographs of the jazz quartet Om in the cover story on the 50th anniversary of the band in the Swiss magazine Jazz’N‘More. I had first photographed them in 1978 when I was just 22, and then I recently had the opportunity to recreate the photograph with the group in the fall of 2021.
